Ajuga Chocolate Chip

Ajuga ‘Chocolate Chip’ is a compact, low-growing perennial groundcover prized for its narrow bronze-purple foliage and vibrant spikes of deep blue flowers in spring. Its dense, spreading habit creates a colorful carpet of foliage that works beautifully in borders, rock gardens, pathways, and woodland plantings. The rich chocolate-toned leaves provide season-long interest, while the bright blooms attract bees and other beneficial pollinators.

Smaller and more refined than many other ajuga varieties, ‘Chocolate Chip’ is an excellent choice for filling gaps between stepping stones, softening garden edges, and adding texture to shaded landscape areas. Its tidy growth habit and attractive foliage make it a reliable, low-maintenance addition to the garden.

Maintenance: Plant in partial shade to full shade with moist, well-drained soil. Water regularly during the first 1–2 weeks after planting to establish roots, then maintain moderate moisture during dry periods. Ajuga spreads steadily over time and can be trimmed back if needed to maintain its shape or control growth. Remove spent flower spikes after blooming to keep plantings looking neat and encourage healthy foliage development.
