#15 gallon pot.
Purple Beech (Fagus sylvatica) - Height: 50-60 ft, Width: 35-45 ft. Interest: Rich purple to deep burgundy foliage with a broad, stately form. Purple Beech is a striking ornamental shade tree known for its glossy, deep purple foliage and smooth gray bark. Its dense, spreading canopy creates a dramatic presence in the landscape, making it an excellent specimen tree for larger yards and open spaces. Foliage may develop bronzy-purple tones as the season progresses before turning coppery bronze in fall. Plant in full sun to partial shade in fertile, well-draining soil; the strongest purple color develops with plenty of sun. Water regularly during the first year to establish a healthy root system. Once established, little pruning is required beyond removing dead, damaged, or crossing branches.
Maintenance Tip:
Prune in late winter while dormant to remove dead or crossing branches and maintain structure. Water deeply during dry periods, especially when young, and apply mulch to retain soil moisture. Fertilize in early spring if needed, and avoid excessive disturbance around roots.
