Blueberry Shrubs

Blueberry shrubs (Vaccinium) are highly desirable edible landscape plants known for their sweet, antioxidant-rich berries and attractive multi-season interest. In spring, they produce clusters of delicate white to pink bell-shaped flowers that attract pollinators, followed by juicy blueberries in summer and vibrant red-orange foliage in fall. Their compact, bushy form makes them ideal for edible gardens, hedgerows, and container growing.

These fruiting, pollinator-friendly, and beginner-friendly outdoor shrubs thrive in full sun for best berry production and require well-draining, acidic soil (pH 4.5–5.5). They are low maintenance once established, but perform best with consistent moisture and proper soil conditions. Blueberries are excellent for combining ornamental beauty with productive harvests.

Maintenance Tip:
Prune in late winter by removing dead or weak canes and thinning older stems to encourage new growth. Apply an acid-loving fertilizer in early spring, and mulch with pine bark or similar material to maintain soil acidity and moisture. Protect developing fruit from birds if needed for best harvest yields.
