Concolor Fir, also known as White Fir, is a beautiful evergreen tree prized for its soft, blue-green to silvery-green needles and naturally symmetrical, pyramidal shape. The long needles have a pleasant citrus-like fragrance when crushed, adding to this tree’s appeal. As it matures, Concolor Fir develops into a stately landscape tree with dense evergreen foliage that provides excellent year-round color, structure, and winter interest.
An excellent choice for larger landscapes, Concolor Fir can be used as a specimen tree, incorporated into evergreen groupings, or planted where its mature size and graceful form have room to shine. It generally grows about 30–50 feet tall in landscape settings, although older trees can become larger. Its attractive foliage, strong form, and cold hardiness make it a great evergreen option for New England landscapes.
Maintenance: Plant in full sun to partial sun in moist, well-drained soil. Avoid locations that remain soggy, as Concolor Fir performs best with good drainage. Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season, especially during hot or dry weather, to help establish a strong root system. Apply a layer of mulch around the root zone while keeping it away from the trunk. Once established, it requires relatively little pruning; remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches as needed while allowing the tree to maintain its natural pyramidal shape.
