Autumnalis Cherry Tree (Prunus × subhirtella ‘Autumnalis’) - Height: 20-30 ft, Width: 15-25 ft. Bloom Time: Late Fall to Early Spring. Autumnalis Cherry is a beautiful ornamental flowering tree known for its unusual ability to bloom during the cooler months. Delicate, semi-double, pale pink flowers emerge intermittently during mild periods from late fall through winter, followed by a more abundant display in early spring. Its graceful, spreading branches and green summer foliage add elegance to the landscape, while leaves turn attractive shades of yellow and bronze in autumn. This unique cherry makes an excellent specimen tree for lawns, entryways, and gardens where early-season color is appreciated. Plant in full sun with fertile, well-draining soil. Water regularly during the first year to establish a healthy root system. Minimal pruning is needed beyond removing dead, damaged, or crossing branches, preferably after spring flowering.
Maintenance Tip:
Prune lightly after flowering to shape the tree and remove dead or damaged branches. Avoid heavy pruning, as this can reduce next season’s blooms. Water during dry periods, especially when young, and apply fertilizer in early spring. Monitor for pests and fungal issues, particularly in humid conditions.
