#25 gallon pot.
Chanticleer® Callery Flowering Pear is a striking ornamental tree known for its abundant clusters of white flowers in early spring and its distinctive, narrow, upright growth habit. Unlike broader flowering pear varieties, Chanticleer maintains a more compact, pyramidal shape, typically reaching 25–35 feet tall and 12–15 feet wide. Its glossy, dark green foliage provides attractive summer color before transforming into brilliant shades of red, orange, and purple in fall. Its elegant form makes it especially appealing for narrow landscapes, driveway borders, and areas where a taller ornamental tree is desired without excessive spreading.
This fast-growing, adaptable tree thrives in full sun and tolerates a variety of soil conditions, including urban environments. Its showy spring flowers and vibrant fall foliage provide beautiful multi-season interest. However, Callery pears are invasive in parts of the United States, including Massachusetts, and can spread through cross-pollination with other varieties. Consider noninvasive alternatives when selecting trees for new landscape plantings.
Maintenance: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a healthy root system, then provide deep watering during extended dry periods. Prune in late winter to develop a strong branch structure and remove weak, damaged, or crossing branches. Although Chanticleer generally has a stronger branching habit than some other Callery pear varieties, structural pruning is still important to reduce the risk of storm damage. Apply mulch around the base to conserve moisture and protect roots, keeping it several inches away from the trunk.
