Concord Seedless Grape is a vigorous, productive grapevine prized for its sweet, richly flavored blue-black grapes with the classic Concord flavor, but with little to no noticeable seeds. Clusters ripen in late summer to early fall and are delicious for fresh eating as well as juices, jellies, and preserves. Large, lobed green leaves provide attractive seasonal coverage, making this fruiting vine a great choice for trellises, arbors, fences, and edible landscapes.
This hardy, fast-growing grapevine performs best in full sun and well-draining soil, where plenty of sunlight helps encourage good fruit production and ripening. Concord Seedless is self-pollinating, so only one vine is needed to produce fruit, although a sturdy support system is important as the vine matures. Its combination of edible fruit, vigorous growth, and classic grapevine foliage makes it a rewarding addition to sunny New England gardens.
Maintenance: Prune annually in late winter while the vine is dormant, removing much of the previous season’s growth to encourage healthy new growth and good fruit production. Train the main vine along a sturdy trellis, arbor, or other support and thin excessive growth as needed to improve sunlight and airflow. Water regularly during the first growing season and during extended dry periods, especially while fruit is developing. Mulch around the root zone while keeping mulch away from the base of the vine, and fertilize lightly in spring if needed.
