#3 gallon pot.
Helleri Holly (Ilex crenata 'Helleri') is a compact, slow-growing evergreen shrub known for its small, glossy, dark green leaves and naturally dense, rounded growth habit. Its fine-textured foliage resembles boxwood, creating a neat, uniform appearance that provides attractive greenery throughout the year. Unlike traditional hollies, it produces very few berries, with its foliage being the main ornamental feature. Growing approximately 2–4 feet tall and 3–5 feet wide, it offers beautiful structure without requiring frequent pruning.
Thriving in full sun to partial shade and moist, well-draining, slightly acidic soil, it is low maintenance and adaptable to a variety of landscape settings. Ideal for low hedges, foundation plantings, garden borders, and mass plantings.
Maintenance Tip: Water regularly during establishment, then during extended dry periods. Prune lightly in late winter or early spring if needed to maintain its naturally rounded shape. Apply mulch to retain soil moisture and protect roots, and fertilize with an acid-loving fertilizer in spring if needed. Avoid poorly drained or overly alkaline soils.
