Irish Moss Sagina Subulata

Irish Moss (Sagina subulata) is a low-growing evergreen groundcover prized for its soft, moss-like texture and dense carpet of bright green foliage. In late spring to early summer, tiny white star-shaped flowers appear above the foliage, adding delicate seasonal interest and a soft, natural look to garden spaces. Its compact spreading habit makes it an excellent choice for pathways, rock gardens, borders, and planting between stepping stones.

Although not a true moss, Irish Moss creates a lush, velvety appearance that works beautifully in cottage gardens and low-growing landscape designs. Its vibrant green color and tidy habit provide year-round texture and visual softness in cooler climates.

Maintenance: Plant in full sun to partial shade with moist, well-drained soil. Water regularly during the first 1–2 weeks after planting to establish roots, and maintain consistent moisture during hot or dry periods, as Irish Moss prefers evenly moist conditions. Avoid overly soggy soil, especially in winter. Light trimming can help maintain a tidy appearance and encourage dense growth over time.
