Liatris Kobold Original

Liatris ‘Kobold Original’ (Blazing Star) is a compact native perennial known for its dense spikes of vibrant rosy-purple flowers that bloom from the top down in mid to late summer. Its upright flower stalks rise above clumps of narrow, grass-like foliage, creating strong vertical interest in garden beds, borders, prairie plantings, and pollinator gardens. The unique blooms provide weeks of color and make excellent cut flowers for fresh or dried arrangements.

A favorite of butterflies, bees, and other beneficial pollinators, ‘Kobold Original’ is valued for its long bloom season, drought tolerance, and reliable garden performance. Its compact size makes it especially useful in smaller landscapes and front-to-middle border plantings.

Maintenance: Plant in full sun with well-drained soil and water regularly during the first 1–2 weeks after planting to establish roots. Once established, Liatris is drought tolerant and requires only occasional watering during extended dry periods. Deadhead spent flower stalks to maintain a tidy appearance, or leave seed heads standing for winter interest and wildlife value. Cut back old growth in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges.
