#10 gallon pot.
Royal Star Magnolia (Magnolia stellata ‘Royal Star’) - Height: 10-15 ft, Width: 10-12 ft. Bloom Time: Early to Mid-Spring. Royal Star Magnolia is a beautiful, compact ornamental tree known for its abundant, fragrant white flowers that emerge from soft pink buds in early spring. Each star-shaped bloom features numerous slender petals, creating a stunning display before the leaves appear. Its rounded, multi-branched form and lush green summer foliage make it an excellent specimen for smaller yards, foundation plantings, and garden beds. Royal Star is especially cold-hardy and typically blooms slightly later than other star magnolias, helping reduce the risk of frost damage, although flowers can still be affected by late freezes. Plant in full sun to partial shade in moist, fertile, well-draining soil. Water regularly during establishment and mulch around the base to retain moisture. Minimal pruning is needed beyond removing dead or damaged branches, preferably after flowering.
Maintenance Tip:
Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and remove dead or damaged branches. Avoid heavy pruning, as magnolias can be slow to recover. Water during dry periods, especially when young, and apply mulch to retain moisture and protect shallow roots. Fertilize in early spring if needed.
