#3 gallon pot.
Elf Mountain Laurel (Kalmia latifolia 'Elf') is a compact, slow-growing native evergreen shrub prized for its delicate clusters of soft pink flower buds that open into beautiful, nearly white, star-shaped blooms in late spring. Its small, glossy dark green leaves and naturally dense, rounded growth habit create a neat, attractive appearance throughout the year. Growing approximately 3–4 feet tall and wide, it provides the beauty of traditional mountain laurels in a smaller, more manageable size.
Thriving in partial shade to full sun and moist, acidic, well-draining soil, it is low maintenance, cold hardy, and pollinator-friendly. Ideal for foundation plantings, woodland gardens, mixed borders, and smaller landscapes.
Maintenance Tip: Water regularly during establishment and keep soil consistently moist, especially during prolonged dry periods. Prune lightly immediately after flowering if needed to maintain its compact shape, and remove spent blooms as desired. Apply mulch to retain soil moisture and protect shallow roots, and fertilize with an acid-loving fertilizer in spring if needed.
