#3 gallon pot.
Little Devil Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius 'Donna May') is a compact, deciduous shrub featuring stunning deep burgundy-red foliage that maintains its rich color throughout the growing season. Clusters of small, pinkish-white flowers appear in late spring to early summer, creating a beautiful contrast against its dark leaves and attracting pollinators. Its dense, upright growth habit and finely textured foliage provide a neat, attractive appearance, while peeling bark adds winter interest. Growing approximately 3–4 feet tall and wide, it provides vibrant color in smaller garden spaces.
Thriving in full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil, it is drought tolerant once established, low maintenance, and pollinator-friendly. Ideal for foundation plantings, mixed borders, low hedges, and smaller landscapes.
Maintenance Tip: Water regularly during establishment, then during extended dry periods. Prune lightly after flowering if needed to maintain its compact shape, although little pruning is generally required. Remove older or damaged stems as needed, and apply mulch to retain soil moisture.
