Phlox Subulata 'Spring Blue’ is a low-growing perennial groundcover prized for its soft carpet of delicate lavender-blue flowers that blanket the plant in spring. Its dense, spreading habit creates a colorful mat of evergreen to semi-evergreen foliage, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, slopes, borders, retaining walls, and pathways. When in bloom, the foliage becomes nearly covered in flowers, creating a vibrant cascade of color and classic cottage-garden charm.
This sun-loving perennial is valued for its ability to provide early-season color while helping soften edges and fill in spaces with minimal maintenance. Its blooms also attract butterflies and other pollinators to the garden.
Maintenance: Plant in full sun with well-drained soil for best flowering and healthiest growth. Water regularly during the first 1–2 weeks after planting to establish roots, then reduce watering frequency as plants become more drought tolerant once established. Lightly shear or trim after blooming to maintain a dense, tidy appearance and encourage healthy new growth. Avoid overly wet soil, especially during winter months.
