Double Take® Orange Quince is a striking spring-flowering shrub that produces an abundance of large, double orange flowers resembling miniature camellia blooms. The vibrant blossoms cover the branches in early to mid-spring, bringing a bold splash of warm color to the landscape just as the growing season begins. Unlike many traditional flowering quince varieties, Double Take® Orange is thornless, making it a more garden-friendly choice for areas around walkways, patios, and frequently used landscape beds.
Growing approximately 4–5 feet tall and wide, Double Take® Orange develops a dense, rounded habit that works beautifully as a specimen shrub, flowering hedge, foundation planting, or colorful addition to mixed borders. Its early flowers are also attractive to pollinators, providing valuable color and activity in the spring garden. This variety is grown primarily for its spectacular ornamental flowers rather than fruit production.
Maintenance: Plant in full sun to partial sun, with full sun encouraging the heaviest flowering. It adapts to a variety of soil types but performs best in well-drained conditions. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system and provide additional water during prolonged dry periods. If pruning or shaping is needed, do so after flowering has finished in spring to avoid removing buds for the following year. Remove dead or damaged branches as needed and apply mulch around the root zone while keeping it away from the base of the shrub.
