#2 gallon pot.
Heritage Raspberry is a popular everbearing red raspberry valued for its sweet, juicy berries and dependable harvests. Small white flowers attract pollinators before developing into flavorful, medium-sized red raspberries that are excellent for fresh eating, baking, freezing, jams, and preserves. Heritage can produce fruit on both older and current-season canes, typically providing a summer crop followed by a larger late-summer to fall harvest when managed for two crops.
This vigorous, upright-growing raspberry performs best in full sun and fertile, well-draining soil with consistent moisture. Heritage is self-pollinating, so only one variety is needed for fruit production, although multiple plants can provide a larger harvest. Its cold hardiness, reliable production, and extended harvest season make it an excellent choice for backyard edible gardens in New England.
Maintenance: Keep newly planted raspberries consistently watered during their first growing season and provide regular moisture during flowering and fruit development. Mulch around the plants to conserve moisture and suppress weeds while keeping mulch away from the crowns. Heritage can be managed for either one or two crops: for the simplest method and one larger fall harvest, cut all canes to the ground in late winter or very early spring. For both summer and fall crops, leave healthy canes that have not finished their second year and remove older canes after they complete their summer crop. Thin crowded growth as needed for good airflow, and fertilize in early spring to support vigorous growth and fruit production.
