#3 gallon pot.
Rugosa Rose (Rosa rugosa) is a hardy, vigorous deciduous shrub known for its beautifully fragrant, single flowers in shades of rosy-pink to deep magenta that bloom primarily in late spring and early summer, often followed by additional flowers later in the season. Its large, open blossoms attract bees and other pollinators, while its distinctive, deeply textured green foliage develops attractive yellow tones in fall. Bright orange-red rose hips follow the flowers, providing additional seasonal color and food for wildlife. Growing approximately 4–6 feet tall and wide, it creates a dense, naturally spreading shrub with beautiful multi-season interest.
Thriving in full sun and well-draining soil, it is exceptionally cold hardy, drought tolerant once established, salt tolerant, fragrant, and pollinator-friendly. Ideal for informal hedges, naturalized plantings, wildlife gardens, and larger landscape borders.
Maintenance Tip: Water regularly during establishment, then during extended dry periods. Prune in early spring to remove dead or damaged stems and control its spreading growth, wearing gloves to protect against its numerous prickles. Avoid excessive fertilization, and leave spent flowers in place if decorative rose hips are desired. Apply mulch to retain soil moisture and help control weeds.
