#3 gallon pot.
Rugosa Alba Rose (Rosa rugosa 'Alba') is a beautiful, exceptionally hardy deciduous shrub prized for its large, pure white, single flowers accented by bright golden-yellow centers. Its wonderfully fragrant blossoms appear in late spring and early summer, often continuing intermittently throughout the season, attracting bees and other beneficial pollinators. Deeply textured, dark green foliage provides attractive contrast, while large, orange-red rose hips develop after flowering, adding beautiful fall color and wildlife value. Growing approximately 4–6 feet tall and wide, it creates a vigorous, naturally rounded to spreading shrub with timeless charm.
Thriving in full sun and well-draining soil, it is cold hardy, salt tolerant, drought tolerant once established, fragrant, and pollinator-friendly. Ideal for naturalized landscapes, informal hedges, wildlife gardens, coastal-style plantings, and larger mixed borders.
Maintenance Tip: Water regularly during establishment, then during prolonged dry periods. Prune in early spring to remove damaged or older stems and maintain its natural shape, taking care around its prickly branches. Avoid heavy fertilization and excessive pruning, as this variety performs well with minimal care. Leave faded flowers in place if ornamental rose hips are desired, and apply mulch to retain moisture.
