#3 gallon pot.
Magic Carpet Spirea is a vibrant, low-growing flowering shrub prized for its colorful foliage and cheerful clusters of bright pink flowers. New leaves emerge in shades of reddish-orange in spring before transitioning to golden yellow, with touches of red appearing on fresh growth throughout the season. In early summer, clusters of rosy-pink flowers bloom above the colorful foliage, attracting bees and butterflies. Its naturally compact, spreading habit makes it an excellent choice for garden borders, foundation plantings, low hedges, and mass plantings.
Thriving in full sun to partial shade, Magic Carpet is a hardy, low-maintenance shrub that prefers well-draining soil and becomes moderately drought tolerant once established. Typically reaching approximately 1–2 feet tall and 2–3 feet wide, it provides beautiful color without overwhelming smaller landscapes. Its foliage develops warm reddish tones in fall, adding another season of interest to New England gardens.
Maintenance Tip: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish healthy roots, then provide additional moisture during extended dry periods. Apply mulch around the base to retain moisture, keeping it away from the stems. Prune in late winter or early spring to encourage fresh, colorful growth and maintain its compact form. Light trimming after flowering can help keep the shrub tidy and may encourage additional blooms. Fertilize lightly in spring if needed.
