#3 gallon pot.
Cobalt-n-Gold St. John’s Wort (Hypericum kalmianum) is a beautiful, compact deciduous shrub prized for its unique, silvery-blue to blue-green foliage and abundant bright golden-yellow flowers that bloom from late spring into early summer. Its dense, naturally mounded growth habit creates an attractive contrast of color and texture, while its foliage develops vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red in fall. Attractive peeling bark provides additional winter interest. Growing approximately 2–3 feet tall and 4–5 feet wide, it offers beautiful multi-season appeal.
Thriving in full sun and well-draining soil, it is drought tolerant once established, deer resistant, low maintenance, and pollinator-friendly. Ideal for mixed borders, foundation plantings, mass plantings, slopes, and naturalized landscapes.
Maintenance Tip: Water regularly during establishment, then during extended dry periods. Prune lightly after flowering if needed to maintain its naturally mounded shape, although little pruning is typically required. Remove damaged or crossing branches as needed, apply mulch to retain soil moisture, and fertilize lightly in early spring if needed.
