#3 gallon pot.
My Monet Weigela (Weigela florida 'Verweig') is a charming, dwarf deciduous shrub known for its beautiful variegated foliage featuring soft green leaves edged in creamy white, often developing delicate pink tones throughout the growing season. Its small, trumpet-shaped pink flowers appear in late spring to early summer, creating a lovely contrast against its colorful leaves and attracting butterflies and hummingbirds. Its naturally compact, rounded growth habit provides beautiful texture and color even when not in bloom. Growing approximately 12–18 inches tall and 18–24 inches wide, it offers an elegant accent for smaller garden spaces.
Thriving in full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil, it is slow growing, deer resistant, low maintenance, and beginner-friendly. Ideal for garden borders, foundation plantings, containers, edging, and smaller landscapes.
Maintenance Tip: Water regularly during establishment, then during extended dry periods. Little pruning is typically required due to its naturally compact growth habit, but light trimming immediately after flowering can help maintain shape. Remove any solid green shoots to preserve its beautiful variegation, apply mulch to retain moisture, and fertilize lightly in early spring if needed.
