Woolly Thyme

Woolly Thyme (Thymus pseudolanuginosus) is a soft, low-growing perennial groundcover prized for its fuzzy, silver-gray foliage and creeping, mat-forming habit. It creates a dense, velvety carpet that adds texture and contrast to rock gardens, pathways, borders, and between stepping stones. In summer, it produces small pink to pale purple flowers that gently rise above the foliage and attract bees and other pollinators.

This thyme variety is especially valued for its drought tolerance, foot-traffic tolerance in light use areas, and year-round ornamental foliage. Its soft, wool-like texture makes it a standout choice for adding a unique sensory element to sunny landscape designs.

Maintenance: Plant in full sun with well-drained, sandy or rocky soil. Water regularly during the first 1–2 weeks after planting to establish roots, then reduce watering as it becomes highly drought tolerant once established. Avoid overly wet conditions, especially in winter, to prevent rot. Light trimming after flowering can help maintain a tidy, dense appearance and encourage fresh growth.
