Crispin Apple Tree – Trees for cross pollination: Fuji, Honeycrisp, & Granny Smith. Height: 12–18 ft, Width: 12–15 ft. Interest: White spring blossoms in mid-spring; fruit ripens in September–October. Crispin Apple (also known as Mutsu) is a large, highly productive apple variety known for its crisp texture, juicy bite, and sweet-tart flavor. The fruit is typically large to very large with a greenish-gold skin that can develop a light blush as it ripens. Crispin apples are excellent for fresh eating, baking, and cider, offering a versatile, high-quality harvest in the fall. In spring, the tree produces abundant white blossoms that add ornamental interest and support pollinators, followed by a heavy fruit set in autumn. Its strong growth habit and reliable yields make it a great choice for home orchards and edible landscapes, especially in cooler climates like New England.
Maintenance Tip:
Prune annually in late winter while dormant to shape the tree, remove dead or crossing branches, and encourage better fruit production. Thin developing fruit in early summer to improve size and prevent branch stress. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring, maintain consistent watering during dry periods, and monitor for pests and disease throughout the growing season.
