#3 gallon pot.
Lemony Lace Elderberry (Sambucus) is a vibrant, fast-growing deciduous shrub known for its finely cut, golden-yellow foliage that emerges with reddish tones in spring before maturing to bright chartreuse. Clusters of delicate white flowers appear in early spring, followed by bright red berries that attract birds but are poisonous to humans. Growing approximately 4–7 feet tall and wide, it adds beautiful color and texture throughout the growing season.
Thriving in full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil, it is low maintenance, deer resistant, and pollinator-friendly. Ideal for mixed borders, specimen plantings, and wildlife gardens.
Maintenance Tip: Water regularly during establishment, then during extended dry periods. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage healthy growth, as spring pruning can reduce blooms. Apply mulch to retain moisture and fertilize in early spring if needed.
