Honey Maid Holly (Ilex × meserveae 'Honey Maid') is a colorful evergreen shrub prized for its glossy, blue-green foliage edged in creamy yellow and gold, providing beautiful year-round contrast. Small white flowers appear in spring, followed by bright red berries in fall and winter when a compatible male holly is planted nearby. Its dense, rounded to broadly pyramidal growth habit adds attractive color and structure to the landscape. Growing approximately 5–8 feet tall and 4–6 feet wide, it creates an eye-catching evergreen accent.
Thriving in full sun to partial shade and moist, well-draining, slightly acidic soil, it is cold hardy and generally low maintenance. Ideal for foundation plantings, mixed borders, hedges, and colorful evergreen accents.
Maintenance Tip: Water regularly during establishment, then during extended dry periods. Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to maintain shape, and remove any solid green shoots to preserve its colorful variegation. Apply mulch to retain soil moisture and fertilize with an acid-loving fertilizer in spring if needed. Plant near a compatible male holly, such as Blue Prince, for berry production.
