Bobo Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata) is a compact, deciduous flowering shrub prized for its abundance of large, cone-shaped white flowers that nearly cover the entire plant from midsummer into fall. As the season progresses, its bright white blossoms gradually develop delicate soft pink tones, creating an elegant display against rich green foliage. Its strong stems and naturally dense, rounded growth habit keep the flowers upright without overwhelming smaller garden spaces. Growing approximately 2.5–3 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide, it provides impressive flower coverage in a manageable size.
Thriving in full sun to partial shade and moist, well-draining soil, it is cold hardy, low maintenance, and beginner-friendly. Ideal for foundation plantings, low flowering hedges, mixed borders, containers, and mass plantings.
Maintenance Tip: Water regularly during establishment, then deeply during extended dry periods. Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins, removing damaged stems and shortening branches by approximately one-third to encourage strong flowering. Apply mulch to retain soil moisture and fertilize lightly in spring if needed.
