#3 gallon pot.
Tiny Tuff Stuff Hydrangea (Hydrangea serrata) is a delicate, compact deciduous shrub prized for its beautiful lacecap-style flowers featuring clusters of tiny fertile blossoms surrounded by larger, star-shaped petals in soft shades of pink or lavender-blue depending on soil conditions. Blooming in early summer with the potential for additional flowers later in the season, its intricate blossoms create a graceful display against finely textured green foliage. Its naturally dense, rounded growth habit provides beautiful color and texture without requiring much space. Growing approximately 1.5–2 feet tall and wide, it is an excellent choice for smaller garden spaces.
Thriving in partial shade to morning sun and moist, well-draining soil, it is cold hardy and attractive to pollinators visiting its fertile flowers. Ideal for woodland gardens, foundation plantings, mixed borders, containers, and smaller landscapes.
Maintenance Tip: Water regularly during establishment and maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during summer heat. Avoid routine pruning, as flower buds develop primarily on the previous year's growth. In spring, remove only clearly dead or damaged stems once new growth appears, and lightly shape after flowering if absolutely necessary. Apply mulch to retain moisture and protect roots during winter.
