#3 gallon pot.
Vanilla Strawberry Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata 'Renhy') is a spectacular, deciduous flowering shrub prized for its enormous, cone-shaped flower clusters that emerge creamy white before gradually transitioning to soft pink and deep strawberry-red as the season progresses. Its abundant blossoms create a stunning multicolored display from midsummer into fall, often featuring white, pink, and red flowers simultaneously. Strong, upright red stems and lush green foliage provide beautiful contrast, while its naturally upright, rounded growth habit creates an impressive landscape focal point. Growing approximately 6–7 feet tall and 5–6 feet wide, it adds dramatic seasonal color and structure to larger garden spaces.
Thriving in full sun to partial shade and moist, well-draining soil, it is cold hardy, low maintenance, and beginner-friendly. Ideal for flowering hedges, privacy plantings, mixed borders, specimen plantings, and cut flower gardens.
Maintenance Tip: Water regularly during establishment, then deeply during extended dry periods. Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins to encourage strong branching and abundant flowers. Remove damaged or crossing stems as needed, apply mulch to retain soil moisture, and fertilize lightly in spring if needed. Its colorful blooms can also be left on the plant to dry naturally for winter interest.
