#3 gallon pot.
Spilled Wine Weigela (Weigela florida 'Bokraspiwi') is a stunning, compact deciduous shrub prized for its rich, dark purple-black foliage and abundant clusters of vibrant, rosy-pink, trumpet-shaped flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer. Its dramatic leaves maintain their deep color throughout the growing season, providing striking contrast even after the flowers have faded. Unlike traditional upright Weigela varieties, its low, spreading growth habit creates an attractive, cascading appearance. Growing approximately 2–3 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide, it delivers bold seasonal color in a manageable size.
Thriving in full sun and well-draining soil, it is drought tolerant once established, deer resistant, low maintenance, and pollinator-friendly, attracting hummingbirds and butterflies. Ideal for foundation plantings, mixed borders, mass plantings, low hedges, and colorful landscape accents.
Maintenance Tip: Water regularly during establishment, then during prolonged dry periods. Prune lightly immediately after flowering if needed to control spreading growth and maintain shape, although its naturally compact form requires little maintenance. Remove older or damaged branches as necessary, apply mulch to retain moisture, and fertilize lightly in early spring if needed.
